The Friends Feature On Expertscolumn Is “missing”

SEE THE UPDATE AT THE END. To my surprise the other day I realized that the part of the page earmarked for Expertscolumn friends was missing.Usually one could see the pictures of friends added on one’s page but lo and behold it has vanished entirely. What I saw were the words “Friends of shelpeare - No friends added yet.” This is one reason why Expertscolumn should have an online blog to notify us, writers, of changes, as Triond does. But let us get back to the whole issue of the “friends” feature being missing. This is bound to affect how people socialize on the site.

Here are a few concerns:
(1) Whatever affects socializing on a site affects views and views are the whole point of writing. Those who write for remuneration also will tell you that it is views that lead to payment.

(2) It means that the time spent in adding friends and even being “badgered” by pop-up reminders to either reject or accept has gone down the drain.

(3) The Captcha code which is obligatory on this site in order to comment already deters people from commenting, now the “friends” feature is missing.

It is easier to get views on Expertscolumn than Triond but if you look at the average article on Triond compared to the average article on Expertscolumn and you will see much more comments on Triond even for articles that are filled with grammatical errors and which read robotically. It has to be that the Captcha code that is not always easy to read and is an extra task is the deterrent to commenting on Expertscolumn columns. It was meant to be a detergent (against spammers) but it is a deterrent not a detergent.

Of course it could be argued that we can still send messages via each others’ inbox but the older ones (and even younger ones) will have to jog their memory more as to the correct spelling of the usernames of hundreds of friends and Heaven help us if a writer changes their username as happens from time to time.A picture would help out a lot in that scenario.

For those who would like to pay their last respects to the the Expertscolumn “friends” feature you can see a cached version of my friends here from Google:
Google Cache version of my "Friends page."

That link is only temporary as Google updates its cache to include more recent screen shots, so find your Google cache page right away.

UPDATE: It seems that Expertscolumn has restored the "Friends" feature today (May 28th, 2012) and I am not seeing the captcha code feature so they responded quickly to my concerns and those of a few others.
